To set the payment date for your taxes, you can choose your payment date and method in "Step 2" of the "Finish & File" section of your TurboTax program.

If you’ve already filed your federal taxes with TurboTax you can’t change your payment date in TurboTax after your return has been accepted, but you can cancel it and make other payment arrangements with the IRS.

since i missed the opportunity to set my payment date, what is the default date that turbotax will pay the IRS for my return?

If you didn't pick a payment date, the default payment date for a direct debit is the due date of the return which is April 15, 2025 for the 2024 tax year.

However, you can also go the IRS website and make an earlier payment here: IRS Make a payment using your bank account or debit card or credit card.

If you decide to pay earlier then your scheduled payment date, it will not automatically be cancelled, you will need to contact the IRS to request that it be cancelled at least two business days prior to your scheduled payment date.

What if you selected a date wrong and already submitted? do I still have to call the Treasury to fix that within two buisness days?

If you set up the wrong date in TurboTax for you payment, you can cancel it by calling IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537. Cancellation requests must be made no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

Once your payment is cancelled, you will need to set up your payment directly with the IRS.  Please see How can I pay my federal taxes?

For a state payment, you can most likely make it through your state's tax website, see How do I contact my state Department of Revenue?
