Double check the amounts you entered from boxes 16 and 17 of your W-2's and make sure you entered your state income and state tax withheld correctly.  TurboTax uses the information that you entered to do the calculations.

No!  That is a ridiculous answer.  The State Tax W2 information was imported from the Federal to the State return BY YOUR IMPORT PROCESSES!   I did not do any data entry for the W2 for the State of Wisconsin.  My federal return looked accurate, so why is the State so high?

When you entered your W-2 information for your Federal return, did you enter the state information for state wages and state tax withheld for WI in addition to the Federal numbers?

Look at the bottom of your W-2 form.

@csparish-gmail-c It is very important to check imported data very carefully.  Sometimes the data import process goes awry.   Did you check the amounts carefully and make sure the printed copy of the W-2 matched the imported copy?   If you have issues with your state return check on boxes 16 and 17 from the W-2.

I agree with this user. In my Federal the state tax that was collected was correct, the amount in estimated state tax paid was correct. The refund amount turbo tax said I was getting was 400 dollars higher than what I actual got from the state. When I went thru state tax calculations the state was correct and Turbo tax was wrong. Couldn't find where turbo's calculation was off.

Are there any factors that could be affecting your State Tax calculation?  Did you live in more than one state in 2022?  Earn income in more than one state?   If you could clarify with more details, we'll try to help.

If you imported your W-2, delete it and re-enter it manually.

If you were in the same state last year, you could compare your state returns side by side to look for differences.
