TuboTax says I have to wait to finish because form 8995A is not available. Do I have to wait for this if I know I will not qualify (my income is above the limitations)?

If you know that you don't qualify for or want the form, you can try this:

*** Desktop***

1. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.

*** Online ***

1. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form

2. delete form(s) 8995-A

3. continue with your return.

NOTE: there may be a worksheet associated with this form of which I am not aware. If you see a "form" that appears to be a worksheet associated with QBI or form 8995-A, you might delete the worksheet as well - otherwise the 8995-A may just reappear.

I am in the same boat. I don't qualify for the deduction but I cannot delete the form 8995A so I can file. Any solutions yet from intuit? Why can't we delete the forms?

If you don't qualify for the deduction and you want to delete the form, follow the steps below:

If you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. Log in to your return.
  2. Click on Tax Tools > Tools  from the left menu
  3. In the Tools Center, under Other helpful links click on Delete a form.
  4. Click Delete next to the form you want to delete and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you are using TurboTax CD/Download:

  1. Click on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar
  2. From the list on the left, click on the form you wish to open and delete.
  3. Click on the Delete Form box at the bottom of the screen.

It doesn't work. I have tried over and over again using that method to delete all 8995A forms and underlying data. They do not delete.

I am not using TurboTax online; it's a download from a CD.

I even tried to override (in all locations) the deduction it was giving me, which I can't take. It does not re-compute the math on any forms.

You will not be able to delete Form 8995A, Qualified Business Income Deduction, in TurboTax is there is information that is entering the form from somewhere else. The Form 8995A will just re-generate.

Qualified Business Income Deduction, also called a Section 199A deduction, often comes from Self-Employment income.

In some cases, your portfolio income can come in under the QBI or Section 199A deduction. QBI can come into your return on 1099DIVs, Schedule K1s and Rental Income, to name just a few.

If you have a QBI amount that you are not sure of, I would check box 5 of your 1099DIVs first. These are called Section 199A dividends which is another fancy way of saying QBI. If you have Schedule K1s, I would check those as well, most likely under Box 13 if it is a Partners K1 or Box 12 is a Subchapter S K1.

You can read more about Section 199A/QBI deductions here and here.

Correction. I was accessing the forms from the drop down view menu on the top left. When I switched to step by step, the forms icon at the top right appeared. I was able to delete the 8995A, and the program recalculated.

But, now it says my schedule C has an error and is insisting on attaching a QBI Worksheet. Can't override.

If you don't want to claim the deduction, revisit your self employment income and expenses section, change your answer to the question about whether your business qualifies as QBI. Edit the name of your business , then click Done to leave that section and the QBI questions will come up so you can review your answers.

I think you have a glitch in your software.  I never entered anything to cause the program to complete an 8995A.  According to Turbo Tax, I have a $1 deduction on this form.  I cannot file because of a $1 deduction on a form that does not apply to me that has "not come out yet."  This bug is preventing me from filing the form.

There is no Delete Form box at the bottom of the screen.  I can navigate to the form, but it won't let me override the erroneous information entered.  And there is no way to delete.  Please advise.  Thank you.

It was the 1099-Div.  I fixed that and it went away.  Thank you.

I was able to clean up by changing the answer to no on this question: "Is this qualified business income? "

I finally found it buried in In Wages & Income, Rental Properties and Royalties, The edit the renal property, then click "Done with rental property", and answer a couple more questions to get to the QBI question.

I have the same problem.  I'm not using the online turbotax, instead, the one I downloaded onto my computer.  I can't finish the taxes because 8995A is not available, but no matter what I do, I can't delete form 8995A
