TTax 2023 - updater fails 2/9/2024 - with usual Microsoft 1603 error

Installed TTax 2023 - runs fine - even updated a couple of times, and now today Feb 9, 2024 the Updater process runs for awhile - and then fails with the usual Microsoft 1603 error -

Also check for a waiting/partially installed Windows OS updates, and reboot.

Partially-installed Windows updates have been known to block proper TTX operation.

seems to happen every year.... recently - 

Install goes fine -  TTAX runs fine - a couple of updates run fine - and then BAM - updater fails 1603 
I'll have to keep track of the steps this year to get past the "annual" Microsoft 1603 error -

just tried again - 2/13/24 - same - runs thru the progress bar - looks like really installing updates, but then fails with 1603 - 

Installed in December - updated - OK
Updates installed thru January - OK

Updates FAILED starting around January 10 -

Other than going to customer support.??

 

Try downloading and installing teh Manual Update.

Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software (intuit.com)

 

After downloading, it

1)  Make sure the main TTX program is shut down.

2) then rt-clck on the manual update .exe file, and select "Run as Administrator".

 

Last time I did that, it took a lot longer than I expected to run.  Sit for a couple minutes to make sure it's started up, then go for a 15 min walk,  check the mail..etc.

so... downloaded and installed the patch EXE - it all went well... 

BUT.... since it really didn't go thru the "update process" and was really more of an "install" - 

there is no real record of the current level of the software - as in the 2/10/24 version 

It was manually installed at..... 2/14/24 - and 5:30pm - after the updater failed -

You are stuck with Customer Support.

I'm not sure they can fix either, as they will go to the 1603 FAQ first.

What is the TurboTax phone number? (intuit.com)

 

Time to install on a different computer?

Have only seen this reported in here a few times over millions of installs...something strange about your setup, would likely take a personal visit form some tech person at TTX, but I doubt they'll do that.

just to followup -

 

Downloaded & installed the manual 2/10/24 patch - 
Did NOT do any further "check for updates" - just used TTAX as is with 2/10 version.

Today is the 2/16 date for downloading and importing Schwab 1099 info -
Did the Import and it worked fine. 
Saved the file - 
Tried the Update Turbotax box.... and IT WORKED -
and downloaded & installed the 2/15/24 updates for TTAX Program and for State - 

 

SO... there ya go - nothing changed at this end - ... but the Updates now work again.
