I have a situation where I sold some property in 2023, adding to my social security income and raising my AGI substantially. Because of that added income, TT printed estimated tax vouchers for me to pay quarterly in 2024 thinking I was going to have the same amount of income in 2024. I will only have my social security and interest from the proceeds of that sale as income in 2024. Do I need to pay on those vouchers because they were generated by TT?
The 1040ES vouchers are optional. You do not have to use them. The software generates them -- if you expect to owe at least $1000 at tax time next year, using them can help you avoid a big tax bill and a possible underpayment penalty. If you do not want to use them, disregard them or shred them.
