You can use a direct debit to pay any federal taxes owed using the TurboTax program by entering the bank routing and account number.  The program will default to a payment date of April 18, 2017 if the payment is after the due date of the tax return.

Any taxes owed had to be paid on or before April 18, 2017 to avoid any late payment penalty and interest owed on the unpaid taxes.

An extension request is only for filing the tax return on or before October 16, 2017 to avoid a late filing/failure to file penalty.  It is not an extension for paying any taxes owed.

Thank you, but TurboTax doesn't appear to be processing the payment. The payment date is defaulting to today (correct) but the payment amount is showing $0 even though I have a balance due. Also the instructions on the processing page seem to indicate an April cutoff date.

Ok...For this issue of the payment showing as '0' even with a balance due you will need to contact TurboTax support.
