Trying to open and continue working on my existing TurboTax 2024 return after doing update on 08/21/25. Get window saying, "Forms are missing... Error: 214". Need help!

Full error msg is: "Forms are missing. TurboTax cannot start a return. Please re-install TurboTax. Error:214". How do I re-install and continue the return I started months ago?

first reboot to see if this clears the issue. 

if not, you may want to contact support to guide you through this.

if you first want to try on your own see if you can uninstall the present version otherwise contact support.

 

from the control panel> programs and features. a screen should open listing Turbotax 2024. highlight it and click on uninstall link at the top

i would download a fresh version of the app even though you may still have the original installation files

log-in to your Turbotax account.

go to the products & billings link and click on it

you should now see a page that says your products

click on the > at the right

you should now see Turbotax Desktop 2024

click on the license and downloads link which will allow you to download the federal and state apps

make sure you get the license code you'll need it to reinstall

if you can't get the license code contact support

after installing make sure you check for updates

Before reinstalling.......If you are on Windows, try doing a Windows Update.  Those can affect it.  Also try doing the manual update  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/updating/help/manually-update-turbotax-for-windows-software-basic-deluxe-premier-home-business/00/26041

Also if you do reinstall the program you might have trouble opening your return.  After you get the program reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
