Trying to fill out schedule C on line 7 I entered $3,000 for 1099-MISC. It won’t let me enter any other info, I’m stuck. It keeps telling me to “fix” this before filing

You may need to complete your business Schedule C set up so that you can link the 1099-MISC to your business. We'll automatically complete Schedule C or C-EZ when you set up your self-employment work in TurboTax or when you enter what the IRS considers self-employment income (it’s often reported on a 1099-MISC).

To set up your business:

 1. Log in and select the Take me to my return button.
 2. Search for sch c and select the Jump to sch c link in the search results.
 3. Answer Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses? or Did you have any income and expenses for a business in 2018? and follow the instructions. There are a series of questions that must be entered before the income can be entered on Schedule C.
 4. If you already started the set-up, click on Edit next to your business and finish setting up your business.

This doesn't answer my question. I already filled out the 1099-MISC. When I go to try to file, it says we need to fix something before I can file. It takes me to box 7; "non-employee compensation: Required: double-click to select the form on which to report this income: Schedule C" There is a box where I entered $3,000-(there is nothing to double click on). But it will not let me enter any other info so I can finish to E-file my return. Appears to be a glitch.

Try the steps above. Not completing the Schedule C will cause that error as TurboTax is telling you that it doesn't have a schedule to link the income to. It won't hurt anything to double check the Schedule C set-up and that may solve the problem. If you need to do a screen share with an agent, here is the contact info. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number?jump_to=answer_3300041

I did all of the above & it still comes up with this error. I have to pay extra just to talk to an agent & I'm not asking for "tax advice" I'm just asking what this program wants me to do, ridiculous...

You are using Deluxe, so you should not have to pay for support.

Yes it says you will need to upgrade to speak to a rep...

Free Editions users have to add PLUS but you appear to be in Deluxe (so no upgrade needed)..

It sounds like you are entering 1099-Misc box 7 income into Schedule C Profit or Loss from Business.

The version of TurboTax that you are using may need to be upgraded to report Schedule C income or loss.

Is the software asking you to upgrade to TurboTax versions Deluxe, Premier or Self-Employed?

If you have business expenses to report, you will need TurboTax Self-Employed to file a Schedule C or C-EZ.

If you do not have business expenses to write off and need to file a Schedule C or C-EZ , you can use TurboTax Deluxe or TurboTax Premier.

Please see this TurboTax Help.

I am also having the exact same issue as the original poster. Mine is already upgraded but it won't let me proceed and complete e-filing. It is getting close to the deadline can someone please provide a solution? Thank you.

To assist, we need more information about the specific issue or error you are getting that is preventing e-Filing after upgrading the product.

I am having this issue too. I did all of the recommended step to fix this but it is still not working. I am upgraded to Self-Employment and when I try to file, it keeps taking me back to the screen where it says to "double click to link to Schedule C". When I click this, it does nothing. All of these message boards keep saying the same thing but it does not fix the problem. Do you have an alternative answer?

Currently there is a known issue when using TurboTax Online that is related to the program asking you to double-click to link to Schedule C.

Please review the article below and use the link in the article to enter your email address to be notified once this is resolved:

TurboTax: Why Am I Unable to Link my 1099-NEC?

Also you can review the information below for a possible steps to solve the issue.

Income reported on Form 1099-NEC must be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to link these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.

Revisit the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry, by following these steps:

 1. Open TurboTax.
 2. On the top right corner of TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner).
 3. Type in “1099-NEC” (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find),
 4. Click on “Jump to 1099-NEC
 5. Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-NEC” link

This will bring you a summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.

Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.

Follow these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return:

 1. On the top right corner of TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner).
 2. Type in “schedule c” (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find).
 3. Click on “Jump to schedule c”.
 4. Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link

If you already have created a Schedule C in your return, click on edit and go to the section to Add Income. This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.

If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC. Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC along with any additional income you received for that business.

Once you have completed this, the error should be eliminated.

Has there been a fix to this issue yet? I have tried all suggested fixes with no luck. I’ve already been charged to efile and it will not let me submit my return because of this error.
