It is possible forms needed for your return are not available.

Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ on the availability of IRS forms.

I just filed on the 11th.. so its possible it was a timing issue. If not, does it specify state or federal? If State, the updates might need to be applied or as the previous commenter indicated, it might be missing a form. If Federal and you've run the check, double check your paymnet/deposit info and identity info..i.e. go back through the last series of questions right after 'check' to make sure its complete. I've never had an issue if TT says its fillable...

Agree if others are having the same issue. I’ll suggest a cache clear. Since it worked for me, and I’m an IT guy, I usually go through the list, connectivity, cache clear, turn off vpn if it’s on…lots of things to try but it’s clearly not the users fault…TT should be assisting

If you are trying to file state and federal at the same time. That is why you're receiving that message.I just went through the same thing and contacted turbo tax to see what was going on and that's exactly what the person told me.You have to wait to file state taxes ,in order to go through.

So I have to wait until my federal gets Deposited into my bank before I can file my state?

Supposedly you will get a notification for when you can file state.

No, you only have to wait for your federal return to be accepted by the IRS before filing state. For more information, please see the below TurboTax help article.

Can I file my federal taxes now and skip my state for later?

Why would that be if we've always e-filed both together and never had a problem before? I'm in agreement with the one who said Turbo Tax is having an issue. And I'm not paying extra just to get their tax "experts" to tell me it's their site. We've used Turbo Tax for 7 years and never had this issue.

I am receiving this message today. Should I wait until the 24th to file because I am in NC or file fed then go back?

You will need to wait until the North Carolina Tax Form D-400 is available to e-file. It's projected to be available on 2/24/2022. You can go ahead and submit your federal tax return by e-filing. In order to do this if using the online version of TurboTax, you will need to follow these steps.

  • Go to file
  • On Step 3 of the file section select Start or Revisit
  • Select File by Mail
  • Change the filing status of your state tax return

You can now e-file your federal tax return and when your state form is available (2/24/2022), you can e-file your state tax form. Don't forget to change the your state return back to e-file once available.

Please see the availability chart for your state here in this TurboTax FAQ.

@kay197041 what year are you trying to file? 2021 can no longer be e-filed nor can it be prepared online.  if your talking about your 2022 return blame the state they are the ones that have to finalize the forms before Turbotax can update them.

I'm getting this with my 2022 transmissions and it's saying state and federal are both ready to be filed and then getting error message. Looking at the link state form schedules NC shows forms available today and turbo tax is now saying it's ready but I tried 3 times and getting same error message via website in browser or turbo tax app.

I just tried to file my 2022 taxes and it’s saying that the 2022 tax year for federal cannot transmit !! So what does that mean

It's gotta be turbotax website or app glitching or something  cause after getting that same error message I decided to try with h&r block and it went through first time no issues, plus saved $120 because it was completely free. Hopefully it works soon for you but if not there's always h&r block if you're still trying to efile.

If you are filing your Federal and State together, please attempt filing each one separate. If it processes successfully, you can submit your State as soon as the Federal return shows accepted.
