Transferring Program Files from old laptop with CD, to a new laptop without a CD

I was using TurboTax on my old laptop which had a CD drive, so I always downloaded the software using the CD drive.  I just brought a new laptop without a CD.  I have tried to copy the program files from my old laptop to my new laptop.  Once on the new laptop, I click the .exe file and get the message it is damaged.  I have tried this twice.

I also tried downloading the software from installturbotax.com on my new computer and enter the license, but it says it is already used on another computer and does not allow the download.

Does anyone have a solution?

what you are trying to use is the actual program .exe rather that the required installation executable. This won't work.

if not and you still have the CD then if the laptop has a USB port you should be able to copy from the CD to a thumb drive and then from there to your new computer's desktop (just the easiest way to find it) which almost certainly has a USB drive.

if you still have issues contact support.

Hi Mike9421,

Thanks for your help.

When copying the files from the CD drive to the thumb drive, it says I need administrator permission to copy "Autorun.inf" file.  Do you know how to get around this?
