Several  states do not have a state income tax.  So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists.   Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming

No, you won't need a corrected W-2 for a missing employer state ID number.

If the Turbo Tax program identifies this as an error, however, you may need to make an entry in order to proceed with your return.

First, call your employer and ask for their state ID number. If that does not get you an answer, see My w2 is missing employers state Id number for guidance.

The state employer ID number is really only a bureaucratic convenience for your state's department of revenue; it's simply not an essential element to the correct filing and processing of a valid personal income tax return (either state or federal).
