You are considered a non-resident alien for the first 5 calendar years or parts thereof on F1.

After that you start using the Substantial Presence Test and become a resident alien once you are in the US 183 days.

If you need to file a Non-Resident U.S. Tax return, please go to the following link:   https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4028799
