Can you describe the issue you are having?

Please ensure to include the exact version you are using, the screen you are on when you get the error, as well as the exact error.

married filing joint TurboTax Premier

charitable deductions $1,500 program enters $300 instead of $600 when using the standard deduction then when you do error check it tells you that 300 is not valid. when you change it to 600 and do error check again. The program changes it back to 300.

this has happened on all the tax returns I have done so far. If the couple has $400,$500 etc program follows through with just $300

When I run a review of return, the SW changes correct $600 for Charitable deductions to $300 which creates an error.

BaronTaber, can you send us a token? This is a sanitized version of your return with all your personal data fuzzed out.

To send us a token, please do the following:

TurboTax Online:

Click Tax Tools in the menu to the left.

Click Tools, and then

Click Share my file with Agent.

A pop-up message will appear. Click OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.

Provide the token number that is generated onto this thread.

TurboTax Desktop:

Select Online menu if the customer is using Windows. Select “Help” if using a Mac.

Select Send Tax File to Agent.

A pop-up message will appear, and the customer will select, Send. If using Mac "Send Tax File to TurboTax Agent

Note: Desktop will save a file to your computer unless you uncheck the box.

Another message will appear. Provide the token number that is generated onto this thread.

At the bottom of your reply (with the token) add "@" "BillM223" (without the space in between) so I will be notified.

This will let us see what is happening on your return. Thanks.

Using Turbo tax Home and Business 2021.

Schedule SE

Line 8d is supposed to be a total of lines 8a through 8c. No total on line 8d. It is blank

Line 8d is used to subtract from  line 7 to determine whether or not taxes are due.

Turbo tax H&B 2020 had same glitch. When last year’s return was scanned in at IRS the blank on line 8d resulted in the IRS assessing 12k of additional taxes in error. Still trying to get that straightened out. Need to fix this please.

Am assuming it is causing multiple problems for others as well. Thank you.

If you would be willing to share a diagnostic copy of your tax file, it could be helpful to examine the situation in more detail.  The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.

To do so, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using in a follow-up thread.

Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
  • Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Share my file with agent.
  • A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
  • Post the token number here.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

  • Select Online at the top of the screen.
  • Select Send Tax File to Agent.
  • Click OK.
  • Post the token number here.

Thank you for sharing your token number.  I examined the Schedule SE-T in detail and noted the following.

Line 7 of Schedule SE is a set number each year for the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax.  For 2021 that number is $142,800.  This is the same number reported on your W-2 in box 3.  Therefore you have met the maximum requirement for Social Security tax withholding and no additional Social Security tax will be imposed on your self-employment income.

When you take a closer look at the description shown beside box 8a on Schedule SE, it states 'If $142,800 or more, skip lines 8b through 10 and go to line 11.'  This is exactly what TurboTax does, so it is calculating the self-employment tax correctly.

It did calculate the tax correctly, but if  line 8d is blank/ zero that number subtracted from line 6  becomes 85.6k which the IRS will multiply  times the full rate as though no tax was paid on the original 142,800.

This happened in 2020 as well.... Turbo Tax left 8d blank and the IRS filled in numbers and sent us a tax due letter of 12k. I am still trying to straighten that out with them. Line 8d must contain an accurate total, or the IRS does its own inaccurate calculation based on zero/blank.

I will be adding a handwritten total on line 8d of 142,800 if Turbo tax does not update this form.

TurboTax calculates my Delaware tax as $2689 for 2022 Married Filing Jointly for a taxable income of $55379 but it should be $2672. It's not a big error but its wrong and I have no idea why.  Can you please review and correct your software

For the 8th consecutive year, I am reporting the same bug. A few times I have written to Intuit, but mostly I have reported this via telephone support, which always has gotten a laugh from your otherwise knowledgeable support personnel.

(Read that first sentence again.)

*When I start Turbotax (this year it is v. 2023), I am prompted to register my product.

*I enter all the required information, including my correct email address that I use to log into Intuit.com.

*When I press enter, I receive the message that I must enter a valid email address to continue. However, the email address is valid enough so that 1) Intuit accepts it for on-line registration of an Intuit account, 2) ISP and Email Providers have been accepting it for more than 20 years so far.

If product registration is so valuable to Intuit, why do you completely fail to correct a but in the registration form that prevents registration, while still endlessly reminding me of your customer support incompetence in this regard?

Hi:

I am EI exempt and if I click or un click the check box in the T4 entry for EI exempt and press done nothing changes.  The refund or amount owing should change.  If I click not exempt and I put zero in the EI box I should owe the EI. like I said nothing changes.  I checked and this bug has been around for several years.

Please advise

TurboTax Deluxe Federal and State

Colorado Form 104 Line 5 Business Meals Add Back

According to the instructions for Colorado Form 104-line 5, "Enter on line 5 the full amount of any federal deduction claimed for business meals on line 24b of Schedule C of Form 1040. Also include on line 5 any business meals addition from line 10 in Column A on any Colorado K-1 (DR 0106K) issued to you by a partnership or S corporation."

I entered 0 on line 5 of my Colorado Form 104, as I have no federal business meals deduction on line 24b of Schedule C of Form 1040 and I did not receive and Colorado K-1s from any partnerships or S corporation.

When running the review of my Colorado tax return, TurboTax flags the Form 104-line 5 entry of 0 and provides the following message:

Check This Entry

Form 104: Business meals deducted needs to be a positive number greater than 0.

If there is no business meals deduction on Form 1040 Schedule C or any from Colorado K-1s, then why must the value entered on Form 104 line 5 be a positive number greater than 0 if the actual deduction add back is 0.

It should be a blank instead of a zero.

IN:  TurboTaxBusiness 2024 (1041 trust)

General Info / Beneficiaries.

Finds 2023 forms. Loads Beneficiaries Incorrectly.

1.  Can Not Correct,  Reverts to old form..

2.  Can not add new beneficiary without error.

Tried deleting all and recreating as new beneficiary.

New beneficiary does not appear.  Is replaced (seemingly randomly)

by beneficiary from 2023.  Program is unusable as is.

You should clear the cache and cookies on your computer and re-boot it, then start over, as that sounds like a computer issue.

Clearing Cache and cookies does nothing.  It is a program bug.  I found a work around.  Go into the forms rather than step-by-step and eliminate all k1's and references to beneficiaries.  Then g back into step-by-step.  This time the beneficiaries will be created correctly.  In general in trusts the beneficiaries do not change from year to year, but occasionally they do, and this creates a massive headache in the current version of TurboTax, but the workaround above fixes the problem.  Please let me know when the code has been corrected as well and I will download the upgrade.

Regards

Otto
