The Turbo Tax Federal tax (line 16 of Form 1040) is $3 higher than it should be based on the IRS tax tables. Single filer and taxable income is $50,000. How to correct?

 Please check the instructions of form 1040 line 16 to see what is included in the total amount reported on line 16.

The only applicable amount included in line 16 is the amount based on the tax tables. There are no taxes from other forms that the instructions list, recapture, triggering events, etc. This return is very basic. Income is only wages and interest. 

To take a closer look at the situation and submit a report to the development team if necessary, it would be very helpful to have a diagnostic copy of your tax file.  The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.

Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:

 

• Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
• Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
• Select Tools.
• Select Share my file with agent.
• A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
• Post the token number here. 

 

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

 

• Select Online at the top of the screen.
• Select Send Tax File to Agent.
• Click OK.
• Post the token number here.
