The taxpayer has deceased and we cannot access the unemployment site to get his 1099G - we also cannot get anyone at the IRS to assist us. Anyone can help?

The 1099-G should be sent to the decedent’s mail address this month.

OK, I hope you are right as we have had his mail forwarded, but some knucklehead at the ID.me site was not sure if 1099g were being mailed out. I bet you are right- thank you!

Form 1099-G comes from the state, not from the IRS. Some states do not mail it. In that case, you have to access it on the state unemployment web site. Check the unemployment web site for the state for information about how 1099-G forms are sent out. You might have to contact the state unemployment department for assistance.

Yep I have gone through the state today and they will not release it (Florida, you know) to anyone at all. their middle man ID.me suggested i talk to the IRS.

I mean ultimately we will file without it if we dont get it and the IRS will have to track it down, Florida DEO has been very clear about not giving it out.

Eventually the 1099-G information will be in the Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS, but it probably won't be there until June or July. You could file an extension and wait for it to show up in the Wage and Income Transcript. A drawback of the IRS transcript is that it does not show the state tax withheld, but for Florida that's not a problem.

If you do file an extension, remember that it's only an extension of time to file the tax return, not an extension of time to pay any tax due. You should estimate the tax as best you can, and if it looks like there will be a payment due on the tax return, make a payment before April 18 to reduce or eliminate any possible penalty for late payment.
