The "tax liability" and "total taxes paid" values are exactly the same on the TurboTax summary page, but it still says I owe $29. Any idea as to why?

I owed this year, but also I filed for an extension. I paid all the taxes TurboTax said I owed back in March (and TurboTax seems to be including the amount I paid in the "total taxes paid" amount). Not sure why TurboTax is saying I owe $29 even though the liability and paid amounts match.

Check 1040 line 38.  Do you owe a penalty?  What lines show $29?  Check the actual 1040.

Is that a tax or a turbotax fee?  If you are using Turbotax installed on your own computer (Deluxe, Premier, or Home & Business), the package includes one free state preparation, but state e-filing is an additional fee which is probably the $29.  You could go back and select "file by mail" and then print and file your state return by mail for no additional cost.

Or, did you check your state taxes owed?  They might be off even if federal is exactly balanced.

Turbotax may offer additional optional services like Audit Defense or Identity Theft Protection that can also have additional fees.

Yep, it's some type of penalty that they didn't take out when I tried to pay the first time.

Line 37 "amount you owe" is what you have to send to the IRS. That includes line 38.
