The selected file is NOT a previous year tax file or it is corrupted. Choose a different file and try again. Error when importing .tax2024 file to TurboTax online

I just downloaded the file from the TurboTax Desktop software. It is not password protected. The file extension is .tax2024.

What are you trying to do?  Did you download the .tax2024 from Online and trying to open it in the Desktop program?   If you need to import the previous year you need the file ending in .tax2023 not .tax2024.   2024 is the current year so you need to Transfer from 2023.

And if you have the 2024 Desktop program why are you trying to move it to Online?  Where did you get the .tax2024 file?

I completed my 2024 taxes on the Desktop Windows App on a computer that is barely clinging to life. I want to add them to my TurboTax online account, so it's available to me in the future. (All other years, I've used the online version)

You better save it to a flash drive or an external backup.  You will need the .tax2024 file to transfer into 2025 next year, either to the Online version or the Desktop program.  Save both the .tax2024 file and the PDF file.  They should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder.  And save the PDF file with all the worksheets.  Go up to File-Save or Save As.
