The number on Schedule A line 17 does not match the number on line 8 form 1040. How do I correct?

There is nothing that needs to be corrected. As I suggested in my earlier comment, TurboTax is using the standard deduction instead of itemized deductions because your standard deduction is higher than your total itemized deductions. The $26,200 amount on Form 1040 line 8 is your standard deduction (for married filing jointly, with both spouses 65 or older). This is higher than your total itemized deductions of $17,055 on Schedule A line 17. So you use the standard deduction instead of the itemized deductions because it is higher.

If Form 1040 line 8 is more than Schedule A line 17, your tax return is probably using the standard deduction instead of itemized deductions because the standard deduction is higher than your total itemized deductions. In that case there is nothing that has to be corrected.

If that does not answer your question, please provide the following information.

What is the EXACT amount on Schedule A line 17?
What is the EXACT amount on Form 1040 line 8?
Are you using TurboTax Online or the CD/Download TurboTax software.
