The number in my payment voucher does not match my 1040's "Amount you owe" category

Hi there,

Turbotax and my 1040 says I owe $45 on my 2018 taxes (filing quite late, it's now Feb 27 2020). It also says this includes a $56 penalty for late filing. However, on the 2019 Form 1040-ES Payment Vouchers the number shown is $435. Where does this discrepancy come from? Is it because the payment is past the due dates? If so, how do they arrive at their number? And what amount am I really supposed to pay?

Best,

Luke

Pay the amount on your form 1040.
look for the voucher 1040-V

The 1040-ES forms are forms for estimated tax. These are optional.
Anyway it's too late now to make estimated tax payments for 2019.

Ignore the 1040ES slips.  Those are to send in estimated payments for 2019.  But it's too late to pay those anyway.  Look for a 1040V payment voucher or just include a check when you mail your return.

or pay the IRS directly online
