The IRS has acknowledged that someone filed a false 2019 return for me. Now they have rejected my actual return. What can I do? I cannot correct my return.

I tried calling them today but their lines were overwhelmed. I can only mail my return, in addition to filing electronically, I think? I did talk to an agent at length about the 5071C letter I received, last month.

Yes, since your return was rejected you will have to mail your return.  Include a statement explaining why you had to mail your return.

also consider including form 14039 - identity theft affidavit
