TD Ameritrade Consolidated1099 Download

This  function is broken on the TurboTax end. I can log onto TD Ameritrade and see the PDF version of my 1099, but I cannot download it into TurboTax. I am using the TD Ameritrade Account Number and eleven character Document ID, but TurboTax says they are an invalid combination.

I have used this facility in past years, and it has always worked. There are too many entries to do manually. Please fix this.  Thanks.

If you do not want to enter the entries manually, you can follow the instructions here to enter a large amount of entries.

If you need additional assistance, please comment and let us know.

This is not an acceptable answer. The reason for doing the import is to avoid doing manual entries, which can be very tedious. The import facility works with custodians other than TD Ameritrade (e.g. Schwab), it works for some TD Ameritrade accounts, but not all. and has worked in previous yeras. The account I cannot download has the same Account Number and Document ID as last year, and it worked then.

The problem appears to be on the TurboTax end, not at TD Ameritrade. The error messagwe comes up immediately before it even attempts to log into TD Ameritrade. I noticed that on documents that do download successfully they contain alpjha-numeric Doc IDs. The one that fails is all numeric.

I hope this helps, and I really hope this gets resolved.

If you have a large number of transactions, this link gives instructions on How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions

I am not looking to enter date in detail or in summary form. TurboTax is obviously broken. People are unable to import Consolidated 1099s from TD Ameritrade, Schwab, and perhaps other custodians. This function had worked well in past years.  Please restore this capability!

You can try and import manually so that you can go ahead and file. Assistance with doing so has been provided by clicking here

I don't want to import manually. One of the advantages of TurboTax is the Download feature. This has worked in past years, and it works for some accounts this year.  Please resolve this.

You must view the form within the TD website environment, you do not want to download the form into a PDF. When you do that, TD will change the Document ID because you have changed the format of the form making it possible for it to be altered.     Turbo Tax will only import the form according to the document id as it is shown within the TD program environment.     Obviously TD believes this is a security measure to ensure that you get the actual form exactly as provided to you from TD.  It also proves to the IRS that the form is legit and in no way was altered.

COMPLAIN TO TD ABOUT IT, NOT TURBO TAX.

I spent > 2 hours on the phone to a TurboTax customer-support specialist trying to get this problem resolved - without success.  I have the Deluxe version, which seems to only allow one download [that is not mentioned anywhere].  She tried to upgrade me to Premier, I tried to purchase the upgrade to Premier.  Nothing worked, I STILL ended up with the Deluxe version, and no downloads.

I apologize for the experience you had, however speaking with an agent they would be able to upgrade you with ease, and can take your payment over the phone. @halbooth

What part of 'speaking to an agent' in my original post did you not understand?  Further information about that > 2-hr conversation:  At the end, she tried to send me to someone further up the line [more power] to help me.  After she did that, I spent MANY minutes listening to a silent phone before finally hanging up in [further] frustration.  I called back today, spending MORE time speaking with another agent.  Her final suggestion?  "Enter the information by hand."

You can only have a total of 10,000 transactions downloaded.

You can view a FAQ here for more information.

As of Feb 18 ,2023 I have seen and downloaded 1099 from TD Ameritrade to my computer, but when I tried to import it to Turbotax, after putting in Acc # and Doc # (11 characters) the message below kept popping up and program will not import anything

"Document ID (11 characters, e.g. A12B3456CD7): Please enter the 11-character Document ID without spaces from your Form 1099 (top right corner). "

That was exactly what I did, NO GO. Called Turbotax Feb 17, representative advised to wait a few hrs and tried again. I waited overnight I tried this morning, it did exactly the same. I 've used Turbotax for more than 20 yrs. It has never happened with TD Ameritrade. By the way, I used the same procedure with Vanguard (same yr 2022) It worked

I also taled to TD Ameritrade, they advised no problem at their end

Even tho Import is a nice feature you don't really need it.

As an active investor, be aware that your category Box A or Box D sales without adjustments do not require Form 8949, so there is no reason to import or key in those transactions.
Instead use the "enter a summary" option to put your numbers on Schedule D Line 1a or Line 8a.
No mailing is necessary.

If you were wise enough to avoid wash sales,
you are done, by way of:

Detail Reporting Exception: if you summarize Category A or Category D, Form 8949 is not needed for transactions without adjustments. No mailing is necessary.

Note: Recently TurboTax has taken to hiding these transactions (no Form 8949) even if you do import them all or type them in.
so you might as well do it this way now yourself.

reply back if you need to report wash sale details.

Great to know, this is a big help for active traders .

However, I was not wise enough to avoid all wash sales, I do have some unfortunately.

I appreciate the education

I'm having the same problem.  That link just takes us to instructions on how to enter the data manually.  That's not going to work for me either.  If it's not fixed within a couple of weeks, I'm sure there's other tax prep software out there that'll be able to handle it.

After a lot of struggle, I was able to upgrade to premier, which could handle it.  The TT techs are NOT good at helping with that process.  You call them to get some sort of number [not the license code] that unlocks the process.  TT will prompt you for that number, you then call a tech and hope they can figure out how to create it.

Thanks for the reply.  I shouldn't have to upgrade my package for this.  Brokerage account downloads are supposed to be part of the "Deluxe" package I signed up for and I didn't need "Premier" last year.  This deep into February Intuit should have this figured out, particularly considering that TD Ameritrade had the information available on 2/3/2023.
