Taxes half in one state and half a year in another

18 year old daughter had to become a resident of Montana this year and can NOT be claimed by her parents now on taxes while in college. Is this going to hurt her at tax time by having to pay in a lot? she is employed full time now in Montana and part time school. Also, Jan through May she held a part time job while in high school here in IL...now rest of year full time job in MT...how will she be able to file taxes in both states?

Toni good afternoon and as your daughter is a part year resident of Illinois and Montana She will be required  to file as a part year resident tax returns for Illinois and Montana based on the months she lived in each state.
