Tax Year Prior to 2020: Unable to File Due to Forms Not Ready? Anyone else?

Form 1040: Individual Schedule EIC and Form 1040: Individual Schedule 8812 Child Tax Credit. It says they are ready soon according to the software. I clicked on the link where it says e-mail me when the forms are ready. I received the email today that they were ready. So, I checked for updates and it gives me a green check mark that says my software is up-to-date; but it still shows the same message when I try to file: forms will be ready soon.  Are they really not ready yet? Or, is there something wrong with my software? Has anyone else been experiencing this?

During the analysis stage, it gives me two errors (which both are related to the forms that are supposed to be ready).  Schedule 8812 and Schedule EIC-- that both state the following "the form has not been approved for use at this time.  You must obtain and update before you file your return."

Are you using TurboTax Online or TurboTax CD/Download?

If you have TurboTax Online you can clear your cash and delete cookies. Also, try refreshing your browser and even try using a different browser.

Here are two articles below that will show you how to clear your cache and delete cookies.

If you have TurboTax CD/Download, please check for updates within the program.

You can also try a manual update if using a Windows based PC - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/updating/help/manually-update-turbotax-for-windows-software-basic-deluxe-premier-home-business/01/26041

Form 8812 is available.  To see forms' availability, click here: Availability

To update the program, let's double-check:

  • If you are using the TurboTax CD/Download software program, open the program, from the top, under Online, select Check for Updates.
  • If you are using the online version, it's an automatic update when you sign in and out.

For the desktop, make sure to exit the program after the update, then return to open up the program.

If you have dependents and are eligible to claim the additional child tax credit you will need to fill out Schedule 8812 so the calculation can be taken on your 1040. To get the Schedule, you can:

1. Make sure you are logged into your return

2. On the left side of the screen click Tax Tools

3. Click Tools

4. Click Search

5. Type in Schedule 8812, click go

6. Select the best choice that fits what you need

7. Follow the prompts and answer the questions

Using the TurboTax desktop software installed on a personal computer, click on Search in the upper right of the desktop program screen.

Enter additional child tax credit

Click on Jump to additional child tax credit

Schedule 8812 is available in the TurboTax software.  I just checked my Premier desktop edition and it is there in Forms mode.

Make sure that your software is at the latest release, see this TurboTax support FAQ for verifying the release for your software - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/updating/help/verify-turbotax-for-windows-basic-deluxe-premier-or-home-business-is-on-the-latest-release/01/25638

If your release is not the same then update your software.  Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen.  Click on Check for Updates.

Is your release information the same as what is shown in the TurboTax support FAQ?

Is there a fix for this yet? I am getting the same message. When I try and update it says that my file is up to date. I'm getting a "ready soon" for "Schedule EIC" and "Schedule 8812" and "Form 540 California Resident Income Tax Return". Pretty ridiculous that forms aren't ready when typically the deadline is 4/15 and today is 4/14.

It’s 5/22 and still getting this annoying error even after updating.

All forms are available and ready for filing. Be sure to run all updates. Try the following fixes that have worked for other taxpayers.

For a Mac,  on the Turbotax Menu click on "Turbotax" in the upper far left, then hold down the "option" button on your Mac keyboard. When you hold the "option" button it will change the "check for updates" to read "download latest updates". While continuing to hold down the "option" button click on "download latest updates". Once it updates the software you should be able to e-file. Hope that helps as it worked for me.

Try this for Windows. It has worked for some people with similar problems.

  • Exit from TurboTax.
  • Right-click the TurboTax 2019 icon on your Windows desktop.
  • On the pop-up menu click "Properties."
  • In the Properties window click the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 7."
  • Check the box that says "Run this program as an administrator."
  • Click OK.
  • Start TurboTax again.

Still not working on Windows 10.

Completed troubleshoot: device reboot, software update on the Turbotax app, checking box for "run as admin" and check box "run in compatibility mode" (strangely in drop down menu the highest Window OS option is Windows 8).

Wonder if that is the issue.

Would be nice to have that issue fixed and explained to users.

Same problem here, and for days I tried everything.  Seems like a common problem but no clear solution for everyone.  It is frustrating.

Ended up getting the TTAX Deluxe, and side-stepped Home&Biz.  This is really bad the TTAX failed to provide complete resolution to people on this update bug.  I will switch to another program next year.

I am using the CD version for 2020 Tax year.

I Can't file. The program says Form 4582 is not ready yet, but I get an email notification that it is ready:

"The wait is over! The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready.

Form 4852, Substitute Form W-2 or 1099R

Open TurboTax on your computer, install the updates when prompted, and your forms will be automatically included.

Having trouble? Make sure you're connected to the internet, then select

Check for updates from the TurboTax menu."

I tried updating couple of times in last 2 days, but I keep on getting the same message that form is not ready.

The Form 4852 will be available to file on February 18th, which is a normal timeframe. Currently, it will be available for filing by mail only.

The IRS does not want this form used until the employer has had sufficient time to provide the W-2s and you have exhausted all avenues to obtain it.
