Importing your info into TurboTax is easier than ever before! You can import your info directly from over a million employers.

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select the search icon at the top of the page and search for W-2 and select the Jump to link.
  3. Select Work on my W-2 now and Continue.
  1. If you've already entered a W-2, select the Add another W-2 button.
  2. Enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box b on your W-2.
  3. If your W-2 can be imported, you'll come to the Great news! We can automatically import your W-2 info automatically screen. Provide the requested information to complete your import.

To enter 1099 G Unemployment compensation and paid family leave are entered in the same place:

  1. Open or continue your tax return.
  2. Search for unemployment compensation and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
  3. On the Did you receive unemployment or paid family leave benefits in 2019? screen, answer Yes.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1099-G information.

Turbo tax is defaulting to the incorrect EIN number. How can I correct it to the correct one?

@LMorrisey

TurboTax never defaults to an EIN number.

What are you trying to do and what do you see?

I am entering my 1099-G for my Paid Family Leave paid by New York State Insurance Fund and Turbo Tax is defaulting to:  The New York Department of Labor uses the Federal ID Number 27-0293117. Your entry doesn't match this, and that will cause problems later when you file your return. How would you like to fix this?

1) Let's change this to 27-0293117. That's actually the correct Federal ID Number from my form - not true or

2) Ooops, this isn't a Form 1099-G at all - nope it's a 1099-G

3) Something else is wrong. I want to review my entries - nope I entered exactly what is on the 1099-G

Suggestion on how to keep the correct Federal ID number

Well, this is puzzling. The New York Department of Labor uses 27-0293117 on its 1099-Gs for unemployment, and paid family leave is treated as unemployment benefits. You can see this on page 5 at this NY Department of Labor webpage.

Hey, try using the instructions in that link to get your 1099-G form online and see what EIN it is using for the Department of Labor. Let us know what EIN is on your online 1099-G. Thanks.

The problem is the 1099-G is NOT from the Department of Labor it is from New York State Insurance Fund

Ah, Paid Family Leave used to be paid by the NY Department of Labor, as you can see on page 5 on that link above. This makes sense because, as I said, paid family leave is considered an unemployment benefit.

But perhaps the State is now issuing 1099-Gs from the Insurance Fund instead.

Well, let's do this - let TurboTax do its thing (change the EIN) because it probably won't hurt your return or your e-file (tell me if that's not true), and after July 15th at some point, we will ask the State if they changed things without notice.

Ok. Fingers crossed there is no issue with filing.

LOL

I have another question - is it best to start a new thread or can I ask you?

By the way - I went into the forms section and changed the Federal ID # to the one on the 1098 and it looks like the number was accepted. I will let you know if I am able to e-file with the change.

You can do either - -  You can keep using this thread or start a new one here.    Usually it is better to start a new one but if this is working for you, stick with it..;)    @LMorrisey

My mortgage was sold to a new lender and Turbo Tax is treating the 1098's as 2 different mortgage's thus adding up the principal. Is there a way to have the 2 1098's recognized as the same mortgage?

If the Payer on your 1099-G is the NYS Dept. of Labor, the Payer's TIN is right below their address.
