Tax Year Prior to 2020: As a software consultant, I received 1099-MISC. I flew to visit my family. Is the RETURN part of that trip deductible, because I was going to my consulting work?

(I know personal trips aren't deductible, but the return part of the personal trip was actually going TO work, similar to business travel?)

Unfortunately, it is not deductible.  The reason you left your work location was for personal reasons, so the return trip is also not deductible.
