Tax Year 2020 - Mileage Expense Work sheet for Schedule C

On the Worksheet for 2020, the standard mileage rate to be posted to Schedule C did not transfer the correct data.

Example: My mileage expenses for business were reported on Schedule C as $17,644. On the Worksheet, it displayed $17,185.

I verified all entries, and the error keeps happening. I compared similar entries on Turbo Tax 2019, and all transfers were correctly entered on Schedule C.

This is just one issue that triggered the IRS to audit a tax return. As a licensed tax preparer since 1987 and Turbo tax user, I would appreciate a follow-up and explanation.

If you check your Car and Truck Worksheet, do you have anything on line 28? Those amounts will be added to the standard mileage rate and appear on Schedule C as part of line 9 Car and truck expenses.

If not, please follow these instructions to share a sanitized version of the file with us.

  1. From inside the return, scroll down to Tax Tools on the bottom of the left side menu.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Click on Share my file with agent at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click OK to create the diagnostic file.
  5. Please make note of the token number.
  6. Respond back to this thread with the token number and we will have an agent look into the issue.
