First, see what happens with the return that was filed as your 2023 tax return.  If it happens to be rejected, then you can just remove the 2022 information that you included with 2023 and refile it.  That is assuming that 2023 and 2022 are the years in question.

If the return is accepted, then you will need to wait and see if the IRS may possibly correct the return for you by removing 2022 income items.  Otherwise, you will need to amend the 2023 return to remove the 2022 information.

Then purchase and download the 2022 version of TurboTax to file the 2022 tax return on its own.

It was 2021 and 2023 it was accepted and now on a 60 day review I tried to amend myself but now saying I owe the tax expert I was speaking on the phone with said I received my return but I think it's because it's on a hold maybe is that why it is saying I owe ?

You entered income from two different years on the same tax return?  That was a big mistake.  Did you e-file it already?  Was it accepted?   Or was it rejected?

If it was accepted, then you are going to have to wait for the IRS to process it fully and then you will have to amend and remove the income from any year other than 2023.  The current online software is ONLY for 2023--no other year.  You cannot put income from a different year on a 2023 tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...

If it was rejected, you can delete the income from the past year and just leave the 2023 income on it, and then try to re-file it.

For the past year ----whether it was for 2020, 2021 or 2022----you need to use the CD/download software and file it by mail.  Do not combine tax years in any way at all.  Do not even mail them in the same envelopes.

You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2023 only.   Only a 2023 return can be prepared online and only a 2023 return can be e-filed.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2020, 2021, and  2022 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2020, 2021, or 2022  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

@kirstenjohnson245 Looks like we were posting at the same time.  I see that you are now under review---so the IRS sees that something is wrong ---they might correct the mistake for you.  Do not try to amend until the IRS finishes with it.   Wait and see if the IRS removes that 2021 income for you and just leaves the 2023 income in.

Meanwhile, it would be okay for you to prepare a correct 2021 return using the 2021 CD/download and the 2021 W-2 you have.  That one has to be filed by mail.
