tax payment worksheet double counting federal tax payments

TurboTax Tax Payment Worksheet double counted federal tax payments on line 1 and again on line 6.  TurboTax applied a 2023 tax (refund) over-payment as the first (04/15/24) estimated tax payment on line 1.  TurboTax again applied the same amount as "Overpayments applied to 2024" (line 6).  Thus, (line 8), Totals of line 1 through 7, includes the same entry counted twice.  This error results to an incorrect entry on line 26 on form 1040-SR.

The logical correction seems to be to apply the 2023 over-payment only to line 6 and not line 1 on the work sheet.

This occurred with the latest TurboTax updated version on 3/30/2025.

I discovered this TurboTax glitch after receiving (and investigating) a 2024 return notice from the IRS dated 21 April 2025.

How can I compensate for this error in the TurboTax 2024 file when the information is transferred upon starting the 2025 return next year?

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with tax letters. Click on the blue button that says "Get help from TurboTax support" after you click here.

Just in case, How to submit documentation for accuracy guarantee claims.

Same thing happened to me, except that the IRS caught the error and I have to pay add'l penalties and interest.
