Suspect that torbotax rounded up my Box 1 incorrectly on State tax.

Hi,

I was doing my taxes yesterday and when I got to my state taxes it imported my information from federal.  I strongly suspect that it imported Box 1 incorrectly.  I saw something like $70,250 input as $7250.  It doubled my state refund massively.  Turbox will not allow you to view what was input for state unless you pay for it first.  I didn't want to pay for it if it was incorrect.  I called Turbotax and the person couldn't help me.  I spent over an hour on the phone while the person sent me emails that didn't help or allow me to view what Turbox input for my state return.  I'm at a complete loss.  I have been using Turbotax fort 8 years but I don' think I trust it anymore.

Box 1 of the W-2?

Your post shows you are using the TurboTax Basic desktop edition for Windows.  You can view, add, change, edit anything on your tax return.

You can edit the W-2 in the interview section or using Forms mode

To edit the W-2 -

Click on Federal Taxes

Click on Wages & Income

Click on I'll choose what I work on

On Wages and Salaries click on the update button

Or click on Forms in the upper right of the desktop program screen.  When in Forms mode you can view every form, schedule, worksheet and instruction page for your tax return, federal and state.

My Federal return was fine.  I need to see what Turbotax copied from federal for State.  The person on the phone had me check my W2 and I confirmed that I entered it properly.  She then had me delete my state return but the problem continued.  I just don't understand why I can view what was transferred in the State.

Go back and check the W2.   You may have  entered box 16  for state wages wrong.  Obviously  you left out the 0 in 70,250.  Did you import or take a picture of the W2?  You should delete the W2 and enter it again MANUALLY.

Federal on left or top (Personal in Home & Business)
Click on Wages and Income tab
Then Wages and Salaries
Wages and Salaries – Start (you might have to click on Show More on right)

To enter a W2 manually do NOT enter the EIN
Just hit Continue
Then in pick the Left box - Type it in myself - Continue

@mkane100

Check box 16 & 17 of the W-2....not box 1 or 2.

A 'massive" state refund suggests box 17 was input wrong.

Thank you!  That must have been it.  I input it wrong the first time.  I just deleted and re-added and it looks fine now.  Thanks for your help.
