State Withholdings Double Counting Turbotax is double counting my state tax withholdings making my expected return huge. Can I manually edit my state taxes?

My wages from my W-2 are input correctly, but the final return TurboTax creates says my employer withheld double what I input (reality is 12K but it says 24K).

You could try clicking on  "forms" in the upper right corner of your screen.  Find and select your W2 on the left hand side.  Review the form to see what is entered.  You may be able to edit the entry on the form.

Thanks @Dan, I don't see a place to click on forms. Would it be under another name? Here's what I see on my screen:

If you are trying to review and edit your W-2 entries, please see How do I change my W-2 info in TurboTax? for assistance.

Your picture did not come through.  Look for white lettering on a blue background directly to the right of box showing your state refund/amount due.

Ok, I got to my W-2, but it shows I paid state taxes equal to half what the state return section is calculating. It makes no sense.

It sounds like you may have accidentally entered your W2 twice. Go to forms to see if there are 2 W2s entered into TurboTax.

If you do not see any errors, you can also delete the input and re-enter it as a new entry.  This may also correct whatever is going on.

For the W-2, you can do the following.

  1. Go to the Federal section of the program.
  2. Select Income & Expenses
  3. Select Job (W-2)
  4. Select the little trash can icon to the right of the applicable W-2 entry
  5. You can then proceed to Add a W-2 to reenter your W-2 information again
  6. Proceed to enter your information as prompted

So I did not pay attention and filed the taxes and now I owe FTB almost 80% of what TurboTax counted as my refund. Who can I reach out to get help ? I tried to amend my return but I am at loss as how to fix it. I ended up paying ~600.00 as penalty just due to this double counting. Whom should I reach out to get help and get the matter resolved ?

Not much help though, have asked me to file an accuracy claim but I am still waiting to get letters from FTB.ca.gov to file a claim. The guarantee accuracy and claim can be filed here

according to expert I spoke to. Somewhat disappointed here though. The Error checker should have flagged and I am still at loss as to why there was a state income tax double counting.
