State return efile when applying ITIN with federal return

I’m applying ITIN for my spouse using W7 with the federal return. She is not eligible for SSN but I’m including her as jointly filed tax return. I understand I need to file by mail for the federal return with W7 form, but can I write “applied for” in state return, and still do efile for state? Or do I need to file state return by mail as well?

Your state return cannot be e-filed if you filed federal by mail. You will need to file state by mail too.
