I stopped receiving social security benefits at the end of 2023 and i was issued an overpayment, however. I’ve been making payments on this throughout 2024 without receiving further benefits. But i receive an SSA-1099 form. Do i still need to submit it when i file my taxes even thought i didn't receive any benefits and have been making payments on the overpayment
Are there any values in box 4 (repayments)? Did you report any Social Security payments on your tax return before you stopped receiving? Please provide more information.
You don't need to enter SSA-1099 Box 3 and Box 4 numbers in TurboTax. Your gross benefits are shown in Box 3 of Form SSA-1099. Your repayments of $50 are shown in box 4. The amount in box 5 shows your net benefits for 2024 (Box 3 minus Box 4).
If you are saying your Form 1099-SSA has $50 in Box 4 and nothing else is reported on the form, than you do not have to enter it in TurboTax.
If you had to repay an amount of Social Security Benefits that you included in your income in an earlier year, you may be able to deduct the amount repaid from your income for the year in which you repaid it.
