Special Security ID number from the IRS to prevent others from filing for my return

I just filed last week online via Turbotax but I want to apply, get the additional 4 or 5 digit security code the IRS is now offering to prevent others from filing for my tax refund. Should I wait till my current 2023 tax year refund comes in - or should I go ahead now to get that new additional security code? I don't want to screw up getting the current refund or confuse the IRS. Thanks.

As long as you have already filed your return for 2023 and it's been accepted, you won't screw anything up.

 

The IP Pin will change each and every year. This is an Identity Protection Pin.
