Yes, if you claim your son as a dependent, your son's standard deduction is $12,550 for tax year 2021 if he made over $12,550 in earned income.

Thank you Helen..

So it seems as if this almost like a one-time Benefit year, where we get both the benefits ?

The reason I am asking is that it seems like my son will be getting a refund of around $1,500, because he is able to use the full standard deduction to effectively cut his income in half, correct ?

It seemed like a great benefit, so just wanted to verify.

Thank you for your help.

Yes. For 2021, the standard deduction for dependents is limited to the greater of $1,100 or your earned income plus $350 (but the total can't be more than the normal standard deduction available for your filing status).

Based on your son's income, he is able to take to full standard deduction $12,550.
