Sold Real estate property owed by my 401k plan - DO I report it anywhere?

Hello,

I have a self managed 401k plan and I purchased a real estate property for $5000 and sold it for $50k. I do currently have less than $250k in plan assets so it seems I don't need to report anything? I do know the title company filed a 1099 for the sale of the property using my 401k plan FEIN to the IRS.

just confirming I don't list the 401k sale anywhere on my current year tax return?

Done properly, your 401(k), not you, bought and sold the property, so nothing about this goes on your individual tax return.

(You are not permitted to take money out of the 401(k), buy property in your name and then transfer the property to the 401(k).  Doing so would be a reportable distribution and an impermissible contribution.)

I'll page @dmertz

I am fairly certain you do not have to report the transaction.
