Software error

My Federal return was rejected because my charitable deduction carryover from 2020 was not entirely used in 2021. Because the carryover was imported from my 2020 tax return I am not allowed by TT to override it. As a result, the section of Schedule A devoted to charitable contributions, where the entire carryover is included (with the unused excess), does not add up to the right aggregate charitable deduction which includes the appropriate amount of the 2020 carryover, and my return has been rejected 3 times.

The only way I see that this can be fixed is to amend the software to change the carryover worksheet to reduce the carryover for 2021 and set forth that reduced amount on Schedule A, while at the same time setting forth the proper carryover for 2022.

If you believe the 2020 carryover is incorrect you can adjust it internally to the software.

CAUTION: Be sure any adjustment is correct.

  1. Go to Deductions and Credits
  2. Scroll down to Charitable Donations
  3. Show More
  4. Select Charitable Donations Carryover from 2020
  5. Do you have charitable donation carryovers?
    1. Let's start with carryovers for non-cash donations
    2. Now let's look at cash donation carryovers

The charitable deduction carryover is correct. My problem is that because of various limitations I was not able to use the entire 2020 carryover. Yet, TurboTax does not allow me to set forth on Schedule A the portion of the carryover that was used to determine the total 2021 charitable deduction. The total shown on Schedule A is correct, but because the full 2020 carryover was imported to Schedule A the listing of the full carryover prevented the components of the deduction (i.e., cash donations, property donations and stock donations) from adding up to the number TT used as the total deduction. Because those number don't add up, the return was rejected when I tried to e-file it.
