This is a question to see if your child qualifies you for the Child tax credit. If your child was issued a Social Security number that is not valid for employment then they are ineligible for the child tax credit and are only eligible for the Other dependent credit.

I checked the box asking if it was valid for employment.  I. Wondering what the box actually said.

The box says Social Security number is Not valid for employment.

The Social Security Administration issue SS card "NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT" to people from other countries who: are lawfully admitted to the United States without work authorization from DHS, but have a valid non-work reason for needing a Social Security number.

If you accidentally checked the box, revisit the dependent information to make the correction:

  • Login to your account.
  • Go to Personal Info
  • Select Edit next to Dependents

Did you check the box? If so, you need to uncheck it. The box is specifically asking if the SSN was not valid

edit: typo

@SamBitter

Please clarify, Sam.  In your post last year, you were apparently having issues with entering a son’s SSN.  This year you indicate you don’t have children.  If there’s a particular issue we can help you with, please be as specific as possible.

I also do my married daughter taxes.  This was aproblem I had when I filed her taxes last year.  The qquestion I entered this year deals with my taxes.  I keep getting questions about Puerto Rico residency.  I live in Kentucky, not Puerto Rico.  I also had Smrt Check kick out a mention of Advance Payment.  However I have not gotten or paid an advance payment for 2021 (the taxes I am trying to file).  I called Turbotax bur git a recorded message stating that my question had already been answered which is not true.  To summarize Smart Check kicks out two weeoes when I chwck my 2021 taxes with Turbotax deluxe.  I have no dependents and therefore no advance payments.  I live in KY not Puerto Rico.  Plwase fix Turbo Tax Deluxe 2021 BUG and contact me with the fix.  At this poimt I am getting extremely irritated.  This will make two years in a row that I have encountered bugs in TT Deluxe and each time and each time has proven to be a TT Bug.  Up to this point I had always been quite happy with the product, but I have lost days tring to get the fix.  Please fis it and/or contact me by email.

Thank you for your help.
