If you earned no money in any country, then you just don't file a tax return.  There is no way to prove that you didn't earn money.  If you worked at all in 2022, your employer would have sent a copy of your W2 to the IRS or if you were a subcontractor or did anything like Door Dash or selling items online, they would have sent your 1099-NEC's or 1099-K's to the IRS.

If the IRS does not receive any of these forms from someone that paid you then they take it as you did not make any money unless they are told otherwise.

If you did earn money in the foreign country you do need to file a return and report that income to the IRS.  You may qualify for a foreign tax credit or income exclusion.  You would do that by selecting the following:

  • Wages and Income
  • Show more next to less common income
  • Start next to Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion
  • Answer yes to did you make any money outside the US.

Where would I get the papers for my taxes if I own my own business? and if I didn't make that much money what paperwork do I file? and how can show them? can I do it turbo tax or do I download some paperwork from IRS? and I have a sole proprietorship business it's a small business done in my kitchen at home.  so, I file comptroller taxes every three months. Do I need to file for Business returns? And if so which/How would I get the proper paperwork? thxs

If you have a sole proprietorship, you can report your business income and expenses on Schedule C which gets filed along with your federal tax return (Form 1040).   You don't need to file a separate business return for a sole proprietorship.

Start a return in TurboTax and you can report any income or expenses in the Self-Employment Income & Expenses (Business) section.   Full instructions are in the links below.
