I had retirement distributions this year which were converted to ROTH. I reported the 1099-R year BUT answered "NO" to all questions related to disaster distributions. There was one for each 1099-R form. Then another one general under the Retirement income section. After going through all income - I a few more questions about this later under Other tax situation. I went over all questions many times to make sure it is a "NO" to all but TurboTax keep taking me back to the 8915-F_T form in "Smart check". When I delete the form - it reappears. I can't figure out where the issue is! Please, help!
Use Chrome browser. Go to three dots at top right and settings...Privacy and Security...Clear browsing data and make sure All Time is selected.
I use the desktop Premier version. Can’t clear the history like this.
Please switch to Form mode and check if you have the 8915E Wks, if you do try to delete it.
If this doesn't help it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Download:
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
Thank you for the token. I reviewed your return and was able to solve the issue with the following steps:
Don't go back to the retirement section after you have done this.
The same thing happened to me. TurboTax brings up the 8915-F form when I checked NO on all pertinent responses.
Here is the trick to fix that. Delete the form. Then go to the 1099-R and edit and answer Yes to taking a distribution. Then two questions will come up. Answer No to both of them and the error will be gone. Sometimes you have to answer Yes to a question to trick TurboTax and this one of those times.
You will need to delete the "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distribution and Repayment Worksheet" (8915E wks) to remove Form 8915-F and the error.
