I'm filing a simple return for my dependent with only a W-2. When I run Smart Check, it flags the following error.
Schedule 8812: Advance payments received must be entered.
The line item identified in the worksheet requires an entry for the following.
B1 Advance child tax credit payments received from Letter 6419 - taxpayer.
My dependent received no advance child tax credit payments. So the simple solution is to enter a 0 to pass the Smart Check. However, I don't feel like Smart Check should be flagging this as an error. I wasn't prompted to enter this amount anywhere prior to running Smart Check.
I had to walk through the Child and Other Dependent Tax Credit section. After answering those questions, the Smart Check no longer flagged an error.
