Single mom, in college, no job, can i file?

So I am a single mom, and i currently do not work. I do have a “income” of a little over $8,000 a year... I’m in college as well. The last 2 years her dad has filed her on his taxes but he only has her 3 days out of every 14 days & he does not split what he gets for her with me. My question is... could i file her this year? Am i allowed to do that?? Or should i just tough it out til i graduate (next December) and can start my career?

What type of income do you have?  You cannot receive any child-related credits without any earned income, and there is no personal exemption in 2018, so, it is not of any benefit to you to claim the child. If he has earned income, it would be more beneficial for him to claim the child.
