I tried the IRS: Tax Return Transcript but can't get into system in deceased husband's name.
Before going the transcript route, be sure to check your copy of your 2019 tax return. Check line 11 for the AGI.
If for some reason that is not possible, then request the transcript under your name in the IRS system. If you filed jointly the 2019 AGI will be the same.
Here is the link if you need it.
Finally, if the rejection still occurs you will need to print, sign and mail in the returns.
I need to file by mail - as per your advise. So, now I need to get the download from you. I have the one that was originally sent - then 'we' corrected an error and re-filed with e-file. So, how do I get the information I need to file by mail??????
I've tried to get an answer to this for a number of days now - please help. Renate Lee
If you already corrected your return, filed again, and your return was accepted by the IRS, you don't need to mail it in. You only could use the option if for some reason you cannot correct you prior year AGI, thus, cannon e-file.
I had the exact same problem. I tried e-filing 3 times and it was rejected each time. To file by mail, I clicked on the link in the email sent to me from TurboTax stating that my return was rejected by the IRS (you can also log directly into your account and there should be a message at the top of the screen stating that you need to correct your return). Click on the link to correct your filing. When you get to the screen that asks how you want to file, select Mail In instead of E-File. You will then be given the chance to download/print your forms before finalizing your return (in TurboTax). Once printed, sign the forms and mail them in as described on the first page of your TaxReturn.pdf file you downloaded/printed.
