Self employment income says needs review. I have reviewed multiple times and can find no issues. How do I get it to add my income from 1099-NEC?

I worked one time on a commercial fishing boat and have a 1099-NEC to report the income. I have entered the amount and it still doesn't register after completion and review. The only thing showing is description of job, not the income.

Go to the Schedule C and enter the amount from the 1099-NEC when asked.

To set up your business:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Search for schedule c and click the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
    • If you've already entered self-employment work and need to enter more, select Add another line of work.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

This took me back to the page I have reviewed 8 times.  There is nothing in red once I get there that alerts me that something is wrong.  I don't have a business name. I worked one week on a commercial fishing boat. I have a 1099-NEC. I have entered it along with ID number for Payer. I don't have a business name. I paid no one.  Yet, when I click Looks Good, it fails to enter the amount into income and still says needs review

Since you received a 1099-NEC from earnings based on one day of work and you have no expenses, nor do you have a business, you can choose to enter your 1099-NEC and classify it as Other Income.

If you want to enter your 1099-NEC and have it flow to Other Income (and not be classified as self-employed), please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Search for 1099-NEC with the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the Jump to 1099-NEC link at the top of the search results.
  4. Edit your 1099-NEC
  5. Continue past the information entered.
  6. On the page Guess what? You can deduct expenses for the example work, answer No, I don't have expenses related to this income
  7. The amount from your 1099-NEC will flow to Other Income

Next, please make sure to delete any Schedule C or associated self-employment forms in your return.

  1. Search for Schedule C with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  2. Select the Jump to Schedule C link in the search results.
  3. Select No to the question Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
  4. Click on Tools.
  5. Click on Delete a Form
  6. Scroll down to your forms and look for forms (Schedule C / Schedule SE) you need to remove and click Delete

GREAT Answer! It totally resolved that issue. Unfortunately, when I deleted Schedule C it left Schedule SE open with O. and now when I try to finish,it keeps telling me sch se needs review. I can't manage to delete it, even with it showing 0.  It tells me I don't need to file sch se. but wont let me delete.

Also, once I got the 1099-NES loaded, it somehow deleted a 1099 for AK permanent fund distribution, and even though it is there, it doesn't show on income. (I Have used turbo tax for almost 10 years and never had these problems before!) argh!!

If you cannot delete your Schedule SE, then please follow these steps:

  1. Delete the 1099-NEC entered with the trash can icon on your 1099-NEC summary page.
  2. Delete the Schedule SE form from your list of Forms.
  3. Re-enter the 1099-NEC with the instructions above so it flows to Other Income.
  4. Re-enter your 1099 for your AK permanent fund distribution.
