S Corp election on Form 1120S

Intuit Business Tax Program wants me to sign Form 2553, S election, on my 1120 S tax return, but I already am an S Corp. It won't let me move forward to file my 1120 S. Why is it making me do this? I don't want to confuse the IRS.

It is possible in the interview section that you indicated that you were electing S Corporation status in the current year, that is the only reason I would know that the form 2553 would be populated. You don't need to submit the form if you have already been given permission to be an S corporation.

I suggest you use the Forms menu option on your menu bar to bring up the form 2553 on your screen. Then, you should be able to delete the form by clinking on the box on the bottom of it that says Delete Form. That may resolve your issue.

No, I did not enter elect S Corp status. I entered I did have an S Corp and the date the S Corp was elected. I did not see Form 2553 under the forms tab to delete it. I have used this program many times and have never had this issue. I really want to e file my taxes.

Perhaps review the dates under Business Info / About Your Business to see whether a future date was mistakenly entered?
