tried to file return so my kid would receive his stimulus payment but it was rejected bc I didn't have the PIN and I've tried getting it online to no avail and I can't get ahold of anyone at the IRS. But I do receive SSDI will I still receive the economic stimulus payment?
Are you only filing to get the stimulus, and you are not otherwise required to file? If so, according to the IRS:
Those receiving federal benefits – including Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Veterans Administration benefits – who have with children and who weren't required file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 should visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool on IRS.gov. By quickly taking steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they can receive the $500 per dependent child payment automatically in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. Otherwise, their payment at this time will be $1,200 and, by law, the additional $500 per eligible child amount would be paid in association with a return filing for tax year 2020.
I chose to file only to ensure my child received the stimulus payment.
But now that the return has been rejected, have I messed up the chance to receive my own economic stimulus payment?
I do receive SSDI myself. So would have gotten the 1200 regardless. I wonder if that is still the case now?
As long as you are otherwise eligible for the stimulus, you will still receive it. You didn't mess anything up. If you are unable to file using the non-filer tool in my previous post, the IRS will send your stimulus payment to the account where you normally receive your SSDI payments.
Regarding your dependents, you will have to wait until you file for 2020. If you don't receive the stimulus payment in 2020, you can always receive it as a credit on your 2020 return in 2021. The stimulus is actually an ADVANCE on a credit on your 2020 return.
