My return was rejected due to home buyer credit repayment. My wife and I purchased the home in 2008, and began renting it out in 2013. The first option under homebuyer credit repayment (still main home in 2018) does not apply. The second option (stopped being main home prior to 2017) applies, but deletes the 5405 form (I think it assumes if it stopped being main home, it must have been sold, which is not the case for me). The third option (never got this credit) does not apply. How to file?
You cannot use IRS Form 5405, First-Time Homebuyer Credit and Repayment of the Credit on a 2018 tax return if you converted the home to a rental in 2013. The remaining credit had to be repaid on your 2013 tax return using the 2013 Form 5405. You need to amend the 2013 tax return and include Form 5405 with the federal amended return, Form 1040X.
TurboTax does not support tax year 2013.
