Retired and no W-2 but Turbo Tax won’t file CA return because of excess SDI

TurboTax PC version 2022 wants an entry for excess CA SDI. It will not file return without it. I am retired and have no job or W-2. Phone support says it’s a bug and sent me on my way. Any ideas are appreciated

Hi Rex - congratulations on your retirement - can you check to see if you received a 1099G?    If you have your 1099R in a different screen it may be asking about CA SDI - lot's of boxes to be on the look out for.

A workaround to try Rex:    Although you have no W-2s but TT on its own entered "0" on line 74, triggering error message and not allowing you to e-file CA return.  Go into TurboTax and delete the "0" generated by TT on Line 74, and leaving that line blank should fix the error.

Thank you Evelyn. After searching a PDF copy of my CA return, I did find that line 74 had a ZERO for SDI. Now the question is , where do I go to delete the 0? I’m using the CD version of TT. I could not find any way to access any forms as all data was entered when prompted by TT.

Hi Rex - may be easiest to delete CA return and re-start the return.

Delete California return, reinstall California return.

Thank you Evelynm, I don’t have a W-2 to delete. Obviously that would be my next move but I haven’t had a W-2 for years. I just need to know how to delete the ZERO on line 74 of some form. Is that something you can assist with?  Rex
