Retain Tax Return for Next Years Tax Comparison

I was not able to use the previous years information for use in filling in this years information. How can I be sure this years information will be available for next year?

why couldn't you use 2019 to do 2020?   to roll info from the previous year to the current year you must use the same account you used for the prior-year return. many taxpayers have multiple accounts.

to check follow the procedures in this link

Mike, Your reply did not address the problem. I probably did not make myself clear. I have no problem with having my prior year tax return that I e-file to uncle. What I don't have is the prior year information I had filled into the Turbo Tax forms that they, Turbo Tax, used to enter the official information into the federal tax forms. Sounds complicated but Turbo Tax had always made that available for comparison in prior years. I really miss that and I want to find out how to make sure it is not missed in the future. If you or Turbo Tax will tell me how I will be very thankful.

Huh?  Are you using the Desktop CD/Download installed program?  Or the Online version?   You can always transfer from the prior year.

If you are using the Desktop program you need the prior year tax file ending in .tax2020 (or .tax2021 for next year) to transfer.

If you used the online version you need to log into the same account.

Where are you stuck?   Don't try to transfer from a pdf file.  That only transfers basic info like your name, ssn and AGI.

Got Turbo Tax Customer Service on phone. He walked me through method to retrieve my 2020 return, however it had no entries even though I had filed and sent fed. files and got my refund. The rep told me I must have had a compromised? file. Any way I am hopeful my next year will be OK. Thanks for help.

Where is your 2020 file?  Retrieve it from where?   Did you use the Online version?  If you used the Desktop program, Maybe you can find a temp file of it.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like  "~your name.tax2020".  That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
