Yes, this message means that your dependent, or qualifying person if you don't have a dependent, was assigned an IP PIN and either it was not on your tax return or it was wrong.

You can retrieve the IP PIN from the IRS here.

Once you have the correct IP PIN, here's how to correct the return and e-file it again:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax Online and select Fix my return.
  2. On the Let's fix your return and then refile screen, select Fix it now or Revisit.
  3. The next screen will show an explanation of what is wrong. Try to follow the on-screen instructions to fix the problem.
  4. If the program doesn't take you to the IP PIN screen, scroll down to Other Tax Situations, select the down arrow to the right.
  5. Select Review/ Edit.
  6. Select the down arrow to the right of Other Return Info.
  7. Select Start or Update to the right of Identity Protection PIN.
  8. Answer the first question Yes.
  9. Select  Add to the right of your dependent's name.
  10. Enter the number on the next screen.
  11. At this point, look for Continue to file and keep going until you submit your return again.
