I received the first economic impact payment, but not the 2nd. The 2nd was based on 2019 income and i didnt qualify. I lost my job in 2020 but i filed that tax yr after that 2nd eip was already based on 2019. I thought i could get some of that 2nd payment but it looks like the Recovery Rebate credit is only if you didnt get that 3rd payment. I got the 3rd one. I know I read somewhere that i would be able to get part of that 2nd one but i guess not. I received none of it and was unemployed after early April 2020. EIP 2 shouldve been based on my 2020 income.
The first EIP --or stimulus check--- was issued in 2020 It was for $1200 for adults and $500 for a dependent under the age of 17. The IRS used information from either your 2019 or 2020 tax return to issue those checks so they could send them out in a hurry.
The 2nd EIP or stimulus was issued in late 2020 or early 2021 and was $600 for adults and $600 for dependents under age 17.
If you did not receive the 1st and/or 2nd stimulus check you can get it by filing a 2020 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review. It will end up on line 30 of a 2020 tax return and will be added to your refund (or reduce your tax due). Both the 1st and 2nd checks are based on 2020 income.
The 3rd EIP--or stimulus check-- was sent out in mid-March or later in 2021 and was for $1400 per person--adults and dependents no age limit.
If you did not get the 3rd EIP payment you can get it by filing a 2021 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review. The credit will go on line 30 of your Form 1040 and will add to your refund (or reduce your tax due). The 3rd EIP is based on 2021 income.

Thanks for the thorough answer. As I said , i got 1 and 3, not 2.
So i guess i need to try an amended return for 2020.
When that 2nd one was paid out, i hadnt filed my 2020 taxes so it was based on my 2019 income which was much higher than 2020 income, and pre-layoff. So i thought i did apply for that recovery rebate and i will check that, but on the IRS site... IRS.gov/eip, it doesnt show a payout for #2, but maybe that is just based on original payout. I have some investigatory work to do.
